Dear Friends,ang tsering sherpa

Namaste, Tashidelek and warm greetings from Nepal.

It is now the end of the Spring Climbing Season and we had an amazing, enjoyable, busy and very successful Mountaineering season from Nepal as well as Tibet Expeditions despite difficult weather conditions.

In this Newsletter I am delighted to share with you the stories and events of this Climbing Season. I am also happy to share with you some important news from the mountaineering arena such as accomplishments, felicitations, festivals and celebrations, plus upcoming events in the calendar.

I am also excited to inform you that I have been doing a lot of research to investigate how many number of summits and how many individuals (some having summited more than once) have summited Everest through history, records and remarkable climbs in this climbing season, summarize the himalayan mountaineering industry and calculation to investigate what the economic and financial contributions the mountaineering industry has had on Nepal in this past spring climbing season. I will be posting this information in a separate email very soon. I will also post this information on our website at www.asian-trekking.com.

Summary of Climbing Season of Spring 2011:

This is the fourth year that Asian Trekking has successfully organized the Eco Everest Expedition. The aim of the expedition is to apply and demonstrate eco-sensitive methods while climbing to the top of the highest peak on earth.

This year the “cash for trash” cleaning program managed to clean 1568 kgs garbage from the slope of Mt. Everest. The main sponsors of Eco Everest Expedition 2011 garbage collection program were Asian Trekking Pvt. Ltd and The North Face. Also since 2008, four dead bodies have been recovered and brought down from the mountain for a dignified burial and funeral. Eco Everest Expedition’s climbing leader, Apa Sherpa has also been taking a message to "stop climate change" as it destroys the Himalayan environment and threatens the lives and livelihoods of the mountain communities.

Since 2008, Eco Everest Expedition has brought down more than 13,500 kilos of old garbage from Mt. Everest for proper disposal and more than 400 kilos of human waste produced by the expedition itself. Also four died bodies recovered and brought down from the mountain for a dignified burial and funeral.
