Summary of Climbing Season of Spring 2011:
This is the fourth year that Asian Trekking has successfully organized the Eco Everest Expedition. The aim of the expedition is to apply and demonstrate eco-sensitive methods while climbing to the top of the highest peak on earth.
High Altitude Climbing Sherpa Team of Eco Everest Expedition 2011
This year the “cash for trash” cleaning program managed to clean 1568 kgs garbage from the slope of Mt. Everest. The main sponsors of Eco Everest Expedition 2011 garbage collection program were Asian Trekking Pvt. Ltd and The North Face. Also since 2008, four dead bodies have been recovered and brought down from the mountain for a dignified burial and funeral. Eco Everest Expedition’s climbing leader, Apa Sherpa has also been taking a message to "stop climate change" as it destroys the Himalayan environment and threatens the lives and livelihoods of the mountain communities.
Since 2008, Eco Everest Expedition has brought down more than 13,500 kilos of old garbage from Mt. Everest for proper disposal and more than 400 kilos of human waste produced by the expedition itself. Also four died bodies recovered and brought down from the mountain for a dignified burial and funeral.

Brazilians Carlos Santalena and Carlos Canellas with Gyalzen Sherpa and Pasang Rita Sherpa reached the summit of Everest on 7th May at 9:50am. Leader of the Brazilian team, Rodrigo Raineri (Brazil), and Kami Tshering Sherpa summited Mt. Everest on 20 May.
Similarly all the Indian team members of Eco Everest Exp.2011, Mrs. Premlata Agrawal, Ms Sunita Singh, Mr. Pawan Grewal, Mr. Narinder Singh, Mr. Vikash Kaushik and Mrs. Sushma Kaushik and their high altitude climbing Sherpas (HAS), Nima Kanchha Sherpa, Tshering Phinjo Sherpa, Kalden Sherpa, Tenzing Dorjee Sherpa, Lhakpa Nuru Sherpa, Pemba Tshering Sherpa, Pasang Temba Sherpa and Sonam Tsh ering Sherpa summited on 20 May.![]() |

Charlie Wittmack, leader of the team, reached the top of Mt. Everest on 6th May at 10:45 am, becoming the first of the Eco Everest Expedition team to summit. Expedition members, Brian Block of USA, Joe Brus of USA, Parita Sherpa and Gyalu Sherpa summited Everest at 07:45 on Friday 13 May. Charlie and the team were climbing in support of Save the Children.
International Everest Expedition (Tibet side):
Ivan Olivier Schmid of Switzerland, Leonardo Fernandez of Mexico and Helmut Ortner of Austria and Pemba Nuru Sherpa reached the Summit of Mt. Everest from North Side on Sat, 21 May. Martin Byrne of Ireland, William G. Holland of USA,, Philip P. Bota of Canada, Lhakpa Sherpa, Ngima Sherpa, Pasang Namgyal Sherpa and Phurba Temba Sherpa reached the Summit of Mt.Everest from North Side on Thur, 26 May.International Dream Everest Expedition (Tibet side):
Abdulkhalim Elmezov of Russia along with his Sherpa Ngima Dorje reached the Summit of Mt. Everest from North Side (Tibet) on 20th May at 06:00 am. They were the first team to reach the summit of Mt. Everest from north side in this climbing season.Shishapangma South Face Expedition:
The Swiss speed climber and leader of the expedition, Ueli Steck, climbed solo to reach the top of Mt. Shishapangma on 17 April via the south face.Shishapangma North Side Expedition:
Helmut Ortner of Austria reached the summit Shishapangma (Tibet) by the north side route of 6 May. Spanish climbers Alvaro Fernandez Murie and Iker Ardanaz Jaunsaras along with Pasang Sherpa summited Mt. Shishapangma on 13 May at 12:05 pm.

International Cho-Oyu Expedition:
Bernardo Guarachi and Elio Guarachi of Bolivia, members of Asian Trekking's International Cho-Oyu Expedition 2011, reached the summit of Mt. Cho Oyu on 5th May. They were the first team to reach the top of Mt.Cho-Oyu this climbing season. Similarly Swiss Speed Climber Ueli Steck and Don Bowie of USA reached the Summit of Mt. Cho-Oyu on 5th May. And, on 6th May Volodymr Lanko of Ukraine summited Mt. Cho-Oyu.

Eco Lhotse Expedition:
Arjun Vajpai of India, Naga Dorje Sherpa, Nawangle Sherpa and Nima Tshering Sherpa reached the top of Mt. Lhotse on 20th May at 08:15 am. At the age of 17, this makes Arjun the youngest person to summit Mt. Lhotse. Arjun already holds the record for being the youngest Indian to Summit Mt. Everest at 16. He climbed with the Eco Everest Expedition in 2010.

International Manaslu Expedition:
Two members of Manaslu Expedition Jan Travnicek-Czech and Jakub Vanek-Czech reached the top Mt. Manaslu on 29th April 2011 at 2:30 pm.

Cancer Survivors from USA successfully accomplished Mt. Everest Base Camp Trek:
See off member of Cancer Survivors Trek to Everest"Cancer Survivors Trek to Everest" an inception of The World Tri crea·tor Charlie Wittmack was organized and led by Dr. Richard Deming, Medical Director of Mercy Cancer Center in Des Moines. The team of 29 trekkers including 15 cancer survivors have successfully completed their trek to Mt.Everest Base Camp (5350m) and returned back to their home country. This is great motivation and encouragement to all those, whose lives are impacted by cancer.
4th International Sagarmatha (Mt. Everest) Day Celebration:
4th International Mt. Everest Day was celebrated on 29 May 2011 with various programs in Kathmandu. In the program, the national and international Everest summiteers were honored with felicitation. Apart from this, those who helped conserve the Khumbu region of its bio-diversity, were also honored. Similarly the national and international summiteers of Mt. Everest in 2011 were honored with medals and certificates.
Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa Memorial Pillar unveiled:
On the occasion of International Sagarmatha (Everest) Day (29 May 2011), the monuments of Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgey Sherpa were unveiled by Dr.Ganesh Raj Joshi, Secretary of Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Government of Nepal. The monuments were visited by Lady June Hillary; wife of Sir Edmund Hillary, Apa Sherpa, officials of Himalaya Trust, NMA officials, mountaineers, members of media and general public. The monuments are installed at International Mountaineers Memorial Park, Kakani.UIAA General Committee Meeting:
To remark the general assembly of UIAA to be held on 5th to 8th October 2011 and the general assembly of UAAA to be held on 9th October 2011, the UIAA General Committee Meeting was held at Paris on . I and Mr. Zimba Zangbu Sherpa; president of Nepal Mountaineering Association took part in the meeting. At the meeting the management committee meeting of the UIAA formally agreed to declared the Mountain Protection label here in Kathmandu during the general assembly. The UIAA General Assembly from 5 - 8 October and UAAA(Asian Mountaineering and Climbing Federation) General Assembly on 9 October 2011 in Kathmandu, Nepal, considered to be one of the most important international event of Nepal Tourism year 2011.Golden Jubilee Celebration of Khumjung School, the first scool built by Sir Edmund Hillary's 1961:
The Golden Jubilee Celebration of Khumjung School, the first school built by Sir Edmund Hillary's own hand in 1961 was held from 26 May to 29 May in Khumjung with various activities and colourful functions. More than 4000 mountaineering communities and international guests, mainly Sherpa communities from Khumjung, Khunde, Namche, Phortse, Pangboche, Thame and lower Pharak velley have attended the activities and functions in Khumjung. Family member and supporters of Late Sir Edmund Hillary had attended the function. Among them Lady June Hillary, Chairwomen of Himalayan Trust NZ, Peter Hillary, Mr. George Band from UK, Merry Lowe wife of George Lowe, member of 1953 Everest Expedition,· Zeke O’Connor, Founder Chairman of Sir Edmund Hillary Foundation, Canada with his daughter Karen O’connor and Byron Smith Canada, Manfred Hauple, vice Chairman of Sir Edmund Hillary Stiftung, Germany, and Larry Whitherbea from USA along with many Ex doctors with their family member of Khunde Hospital from New Zealand. Also many international friends, supporters, well wishers of Khumjung School from UK, Canada, Japan, Korean, New Zealand, USA, Australia, and different part of Europe have attended the function.The event was jointly inaugurated by renowned mountaineer and world record holder Apa Sherpa and renowned mountaineer and son of Sir Edmund Hillary, Peter Hillary on 26 May.
Manaslu Festival:
The local people of Manaslu Region organized Manaslu Festival from 9th May to 11th May 2011 at Sama Village (3300m) to promote tourism activities in the region. The festival was inaugurated by the Minister of Tourism & Civil Aviation, Mr. Khadga Bahadur Bishwakarma.Asian Trekking and Hotel Mount Monastery's Joint Annual Tree Plantation Program:
Asian Trekking and Hotel Mount Monastery organized the annual tree plantation event at Lakhuri Bhanjyang on 25 June. Staff of Asian Trekking and Hotel Mount Monastery, locals and school children from Lakhuri Bhanjyang village and members of media participated in the day-long program and planted 1190 new trees. Chief Secretary of the Government of Nepal, Mr. Madav Prasad Ghimire, graced our event as the Chief Guest. This year is important because 2011 is the International Year of Forest.
New Executive Committee in Himalayan Rescue Association:
A new executive body 11 member executive body is formed under the leadership of Santa Subba including my brother Thukten Sherpa as executive member of Himalayan Rescue Association for 3 years terms.
