The summit team of Dawa Steven, David Liano, Pemba Sherpa and Sonam Sherpa set off at approx 2300 last night. David left camp first and began to head for the Balcony with Pemba, shortly afterwards I received a radio call from David to warn of wind speeds far above those that were predicted. By the time Dawa Steven moved away from Camp 4, it became obvious that the wind gusts were too strong and the decision was made to abandon the summit bid.
Hello from Eco Everest Base Camp. With everyone up on the mountain, it just leaves Apa Sherpa and me here in BC to monitor the radios and wait for summit day.
Congratulations to Brian Block and Joe Brus who summitted Everest at 0745 on Fri 13 May. They must have had an epic battle fighting their way through the storm that was hitting the upper mountain that night. It was on the return journey to C4 that they began to encounter problems. Brian was physically exhausted and his situation was getting out of control. Joe stayed with Brian sending the Sherpa’s ahead to prepare hot drinks and food at C4 whilst Brian and Joe kept moving ahead, eventually the Sherpa’s returned to lend assistance and help Brian into camp.
