Overview

Abi Peak, previously called Cholo and Kangchung has been recently opened for climbing. Abi sister peaks can be reached by Kangchung La. They can be considered as technical and utmost suitable as an intensive training ground for future major 8000m peaks. The itinerary guarantees proper acclimatization and improves considerably your chances of success.

Itinerary

Trip Itinerary

  • Day 1: From Kathmandu, you enjoy an exciting flight to Lukla (2860m, 9384ft). Trek  to Phakding. (2622m, 8603ft). Overnight in lodge.
  • Day 2: Trek to Namche Bazar (3340m, 10959ft).  Sagarmatha National Park has its entrance here and you will have to show your permit. Namche Bazar is the largest village and the administrative center of the Khumbu region. Overnight in lodge.
  • Day 3: Trek to Khumjung (3790m, 12435ft),  called the green valley. Visit the local Khumjung Gompa, the school, hike to Kunde and visit the hospital and the Gompa. Overnight in lodge.
  • Day 4: Trek to Dole (4040m, 13255ft). Leaving Khumjung you have a choice of two trails up to Mong La.  After steep down to Phortse Tanga. From Phortse Tanga on the trail to Dole is a gradual ascent up the valley passing through patches of birch and rhododendron forest where the elusive musk deer can sometimes be seen. Overnight in tented camp.
  • Day 5: Trek to Machermo (4410m, 14469ft). Walking along the alpine meadow with yaks and alpine high land birds and flowers, with view of Cho Oyu (8153m, 26750ft) in the North.
  • Day 6: Trek to Gokyo Lakes (4750m, 15585ft). The path emerges at a small bridge over the Dudh Kosi, now only a clear stream and marks the first of the Gokyo Lakes, populated with its amazing high altitude ducks. The second Gokyo Lake is a lot larger.S Just before Gokyo, there is a chautara covered with prayer flags. From here you can see Gokyo village. Overnight in tented camp.
  • Day 7: Hiking to Gokyo Ri (5,333m, 17498ft) and back to Gokyo Lake. There are stunning views of the upper Gokyo valley, the massive Ngozumpa Glacier and an incredible panoramic view of the whole Khumbu Himalayas, such as giants as Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Makalu, Mt. Cho-Oyu and Mt. Gychung Kang can be seen. After breakfast, trek  to Tagnag (4661m, 15293ft). Cross the crevassed glacier and reach the lateral moraine on the far side, and you'll have the earth under your feet again. The village is just below a small cliff. Overnight in tented camp.
  • Day 8: Trek to Abi Peak Base Camp (5350m - 17553ft). Overnight in tented camp.
  • Day 9: High Camp (5600m - 18374ft). Overnight in tented camp.
  • Day 10: Summit Mt. Abi Peak (6097m - 20005ft) and return to Base Camp. Overnight in tented camp.
  • Day 11: Reserve day. Overnight in tented camp.
  • Day 12: Trek to Pheriche (4280m, 140439ft). Crossing Chola Pass (5368m -17612ft). Overnight in lodge.
  • Day 13: Trek to Namche Bazar. Overnight in lodge.
  • Day 14: Trek to Lukla. Overnight in lodge.
  • Day 15: Fly back to Kathmandu. Transfer to hotel.
