HIMALAYAN CLIMBING COURSE

This course aims to give knowledge and experience to those mountaineers who wish to tackle bigger challenges in the Himalayas. The course is an introduction to High Altitude Mountaineering and focuses on skills that are vital for climbing safely and successfully. This course will also give climbers a good idea of what to expect on expeditions in the Himalayas, thus reducing anxiety and building self-confidence..

This course starts from the basics and is suitable for beginners and intermediate climbers.

The course curriculum will cover the following topics:

- Hill Walking and trekking Technique
- Glacier Walking and basic ice climbing
- Climbing technique, rock and mixed climbing
- Walking on scree
- Self arrest and self rescue
- Tent craft
- Rope Technique
- Equipment familiarization and use.
- Basic high altitude medicine
- Radio Communication.

Day Itinerary
1 In KTM - Equipment and Gear Introduction at ASTREK climbing wall, Thamel-O/N hotel
2 In KTM - Rope Technique / High Altitude Medicine /Self Arrest and Self Rescue /  climbing technique training at ASTREK climbing wall-O/N hotel
3 In KTM - Nagarjun / Natural rock climbing training –O/N hotel
4 Transfer to airport and schedule flight to Lukla (2840m-9315ft) & trek to Phakding (2610m-8560ft) - O/N at Lodge
5 Start - Trekking / Hill walking Technique/ Introduction - Trek to Namche (3440m11,283ft)- O/N at Lodge
6 Trek to Khumjung (3780m-12,398ft) for acclimatization – MAP Reading training. O/N at Lodge
7 Trek to Tengboche (3860m-12,660ft) – Rope work ad knot practice. O/N at Lodge
8 Trek to Dingboche (4410m-14,464ft) –O/N at Lodge
9 Dingboche (4410m-14,464ft) acclimatization day, Bouldering during day - O/N at Lodge
10 Trek to Lobuche (4910m-16,203ft) - O/N at Lodge
11 Trek to Chhukung (4730m) crossing Kongma La (5550m-18,204ft).  (Walking on Scree/radio communication training). O/N lodge
12 Chhukung to Island Peak base camp. (5100m-16,728ft) - O/N Tented Camp. Tent craft.
13-17 Glacier Walking - Traverse, Ascent & Descent on Ice with out rope with ice axe and Crampons/ Bluster- Walking on fixed rope/ jumaring / Summit Island Peak (6160m-20,070ft)
18 Pangboche  - O/N at Lodge
19 Namche  - O/N at Lodge
20 Lukla - O/N at Lodge
21 Schedule flight to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel
