ASTREK CLIMBING WALL

TRAINING & RECREATION
The ASTREK Climbing Wall is 15 meters high with two climbing surfaces in an L-Shape. It has been built to promote climbing as a sport among the urban youth of Kathmandu. The climbing Wall is built to specifications to host international
climbing events.

Designed by French engineer and alpinist, Henry Sigayret, ASTREK hopes that the Climbing Wall will be the seed for the next generation Himalayan climbers. It will not only help aspiring climbers to train, but it is also a recreation facility. Located
in Thamel, the main tourist hub in the center of Kathmandu, thus making it easily accessible to tourists, especially climbers. The “Clubhouse,” next to the climbing wall provides an opportunity to refresh yourself with snacks and drinks between
climbs.

Essential gear: harness, carabiners, and belay devices are provided and each climb is under the supervision of qualified climbing instructors trained under the Nepal Mountaineering Association curriculum.

Climbing sessions are available for a day, a week, and monthly and annual memberships are available for local residents.
Competitive events will be held regularly for international participants. "Climbing in the Nepal Himalaya has taught me to focus my energy and to see challenges as opportunities to improve myself. I was fortunate to be born in to a family that has
climbing flowing through its veins. I want to give others in Nepal the same opportunities I have enjoyed. In our crowded capital city there is a lack of facilities for both young men and women to gauge their strength and stamina. The ASTREK Climbing Wall is my effort to help fulfill this gap."
