BEAT THE GLOF ACTION RUN 2011
& SAVE THE HIMALAYAS-KHUMBU FESTIVAL 3rd JUNE 2011
CLIMATE CHANGE & MOUNTAIN COMMUNITIES
ASIAN TREKKING CARES….
The Beat the GLOF ACTION RUN is being held to show the world what lies in the path of destruction should there be a Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) of the Imja Tsho (lake), situated South-West of Mt. Everest.
The run route starts from Khumjung (3790m) and passed through Kyangjuma (3550) –Namche (3440m)-Phurte (3390m) -Thamo (3842m) - back to Phurte (3820m) – Syangboche (3720m) – Khunde (3840m) and ended back in Khumjung (3790).
This devastation will not only cause loss of life and property but could also cause cultural and traditional values to fade and become extinct. It has been said: “Memory lasts only as long as the last person who remembers”.
The Action Run will be followed by Save the Himalaya Khumbu Festival in Khumjung Village on the day same day as the Beat the GLOF Action Run. Winners and participants of the Action Run will be felicitated by the community.
The theme of this Festival is to showcase for the world the Mountain Communities’ cultural, heritage, their lifestyle and their crucial role in maintaining and protecting their mountain environment. This will be an occasion for the communities to show and international institutions will be invited to share their studies with the communities, and together to formulate plans of action that are realistic.

In support of this effort Asian Trekking offers you an opportunity to be there and to show that YOU CARE. Come and participate in this unique Event!
Two itineraries have been prepared: one for those who want to run in the Beat the GOLF Action Run, and another for those who want to be part of the Khumbu Festival and experience first-hand a unique culture.
