Most of the members of Eco Everest Expedition 2009 are ready to fly to Lukla(2800m) to begin their approach trek to Everest Base Camp. Today they will walk about 3 hours and spent the night at Himalayan Chain Resort,Phakding(2640m). Many media people and well wishers came to Kathmandu Airport to see off Apa Sherpa, Climbign Leader of Eco Everest Exp 2009 and world record climbed of Mt.Everest 18th time and the Eco Everest Expedition team. Apa Sherpa will be going up to top of Mt.Everest for the 19th Time, carrying with him the WWF banner to draw awareness to the impact of Climate Change on the himalayas. Similarly, Mogens Jensen will be carrying the UN Declaration of Human rights to the Top. Mt.Everest is the last Seven Summit for Nic Cunningham, member of Eco Everest Expedition 2009.

All members of the Eco Everest Expedition team arrrived in Kathmandu and are staying at the Yak and Yeti hotel. This evening Asian Trekking hosted a welcome dinner for the members at the ASTREK climbing wall Clubhouse. Before the dinner, a thorough biefing of the expedition. Asian Trekking is also very grateful to Mr. Ted Atkins, inventor of the Top Out Oxygen Mask, for taking time from his busy schedule and to give the team an indepth demonstration and instructions for use of his masks. Asian Trekking is providing Top Out Masks as standard on the Eco Everest Expedition.
This expedition will be one of the most remarkable expedition this year as Apa Sherpa will be going up to the top for the 19th Time, carrying with him the WWF banner to draw awareness to the impact of Climate Change on the himalayas. Weather permitting, the most of the team will be flying to Lukla on the 6th of April. Some members, most Sherpas and all expedition equipment and material are already on the Way to Base Camp.
As part of our expedition, by motivation all sherpas and climbers on the Mountain, the Eco Everest Expedition 2009 aims to bring down two thousand kilograms of garbage from the mountain. In 2008, we had managed to bring down 965 Kgs of garbage and debris.
Using the Eco Everest Expedition 2008 model, we will once again be using renewable technologies and waste bags to bring down any human waste produced on the mountain, not only on the Eco Everest Expedition but also on all expeditions outfitted by Asian Trekking.
